Make a difference ... Volunteer with Queen for a Day

Thank you for your interest in Queen for a Day. The Tampa Chapter of QFAD was started in 2004. While on the Panhellenic Executive Board at USF I attended a conference where I learned about QFAD. Loving to work with children, and wanting to make a difference, I knew this was the perfect program for me. Queen for a day is a non-profit organization that has chapters all over the United States. It is designed to raise the self-esteem and self-confidence of pediatric oncology patients.  We do this by hosting a party where kids can be kids. The girls receive a real pageant crown that belonged to a past title holder.  The volunteers do the kids make-up, nails and put smiles on their face.  We have a program for boys called "Heroes". We bring local firefighters and police officers to interact with the children and bring them hats, badges and even get to try on firefighter gear.  Our goal is to provide a time where the children can forget about their treatment, needles, and loneliness- to shower them with positive attention and to create happy memories to keep them going through hard times.  This day is their day; they are the queens and heroes.  This program has proven to be one of the most rewarding and inspirational for all involved. As a volunteer you will be putting on makeup, painting nails, helping with fun crafts and interacting with the girls. Two weeks prior to the event you will receive an email with more information about the particular event you are attending. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact me. Volunteers are important to every QFAD event. If you do not know if you are able to attend, please do not commit. If something comes up and you can no longer attend, please call me ASAP. Attached is a Volunteer Information Sheet. Please fill it out and either mail it or email it to me. I look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Leah Campanella
